Zenith Rainbow El Primero Automatic Chronograph Reference: 02.0350.400 Concept & History The development of this model series dates back to the French military's tender for a robust on-board chronograph. In the 1990s, the 02.0350.400 as an integral part of the collection. The sailing yacht „Rainbow“, which won the America's Cup in 1934, lent its name to the collection. This model embodies the functional orientation of an instrument watch, combined with the technical superiority of high-frequency timekeeping that has defined Zenith since 1969. Caliber & Technology Inside, the legendary 400 caliber its service. As an integrated automatic chronograph, the movement operates at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz). The precise control of the chronograph functions is managed by a classic column wheel. With a Power reserve from approx. 50 hours and one Incabloc shock protection offers a high degree of everyday usability. The Amplitude remains stable throughout the entire elevator range, which underscores the structural quality of the oscillation and damping system. Case & Material The housing made of Stainless steel has a diameter of 40 mm on. It features a satinized tachymeter bezel. The screwed crown and protected pushers ensure Water resistance to 10 ATM. The surfaces are finely satin-finished, while the flanks feature polished accents. The case back is screwed down and protects the mechanics from external influences. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal seals the construction flush. Aesthetics & Readability The deep black dial features tritium or Super-LumiNova indices, ensuring optimal readability. The three subdials are classically arranged at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. A particular highlight is the date window between 4 and 5 o'clock, which does not interfere with the dial's legibility. The tachymeter scale on the bezel allows for speed measurements based on a fixed distance. The simple design avoids unnecessary decorations and focuses on instrumental clarity.
