Union Glashütte 1893 Big Seconds Concept & History The 1893 Collection references the brand's founding year by Johannes Dürrstein in Glashütte. The development of this model was inspired by a historic precision pocket watch, which is particularly reflected in the off-center arrangement of the displays. The "Große Sekunde" (large seconds) follows the tradition of Saxon watchmaking, combining functional clarity with mechanical depth. This example from 2014 represents the bridge between classic horology and modern manufacturing quality at the Glashütte site. Caliber & Technology The mechanical works inside the housing Caliber U 2899-ZZ6 with automatic winding. The movement is based on an architecture that has been modified for the specific display of the large seconds at 6 o'clock and the power reserve indicator. A high-quality finish with Glashütte three-quarter plate, Perlage The movement is characterized by its bridges and the distinctive Glashütte ribbing. The Incabloc shock protection protects the balance wheel, while blued screws (Blue screws) underscore the optical appeal. The power reserve is approx. 42 hours. Case & Material The housing made of Stainless steel has a diameter of 41 mm and a moderate case height that favors its use as a dress watch. The finishing shows precisely crafted Chamfers and a combination of polished and satin finishes. A sapphire crystal case back offers a view of the elaborate movement decoration. The water resistance is up to 10 ATM specified. The casing is edge-cleanly preserved and shows only minimal signs of wear, which defines its very good condition. Aesthetics & Readability The silver-colored dial captivates with a fine grain, reminiscent of classic enamel dials. The namesake "Grand Seconde" dominates the right half, while the hour and minute display is positioned on the left. Blued hands provide high contrast and excellent readability. The railway minute track on the Rehaut and the Roman numerals underscore the historical character. A discreet date display is harmoniously integrated into the grand seconds design.
