With the warmth of brewed tea leaves, it's easy to see why this rich brown was a favourite in the Edo period! The notebooks in this series are named after traditional Japanese dyes that lend their colours to each cover. The colour of this slim notebook is 'Edocha-iro' 'Edo-cha', 江戸茶, translates as 'Edo brown', a sophisticated shade that became highly fashionable during Japan's Edo period (1603–1868). Edo-cha is a warm, reddish-brown derived from the colour of brewed tea leaves, 'cha' (茶). Although the cover may have the look of leather, it's actually stiff waxed paper. The wax has been applied to give texture and a natural tint that enhances the original colour. The wax also gives the cover a slightly mottled transparency and is intended to develop a vintage, aged look over time. The notebook contains 60 sheets of premium Japanese paper which is compatible not only with pencil and ballpoint but is also excellent for writing with a fountain pen or dip pen. A cotton thread binding completes the look of this charmingly characterful notebook. The notebook measures 9.1cm (3½") wide by 21cm (8¼") tall and is about 0.4cm (about ⅛") thick. Made in Japan.
